CLEMSON — One Clemson University student was killed and two other students were injured in an on-campus crash between a motorcycle and an SUV.

University officials said police and emergency personnel responded Jan. 16 to the crash at the off-ramp of Highway 93 onto Highway 76 toward Clemson around 3:30 p.m.

The motorcycle driver, Jacob W. Noack, 20, of Summerville, was pronounced dead on the scene. Noack was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, according to the Pickens County Coroner's Office.

He was a sophomore engineering major, university officials said in a statement.

The driver and passenger of the SUV, also Clemson students, were transported to the hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“We are saddened by Jacob’s passing,” said Chris Miller, dean of students. “He was a valuable member of our campus community and was deeply admired by all who knew him. We send our warmest condolences to family and friends as they grieve this difficult loss.”

University police briefly closed the road after the accident, telling the community in a campus safety alert to avoid the area that afternoon.

The department is continuing its investigation into the crash.
