Supported by an auditorium full of coaches, parents and peers, 17 Wando High School athletes signed letters of commitment to play sports at colleges and universities in South Carolina and beyond.

The early signing day event took place on Nov. 8 in the Mount Pleasant high school’s auditorium. Remarks from proud coaches were poignant and at times tearful as they saw their players commit to further their athletics careers at the next level.

Two girls’ lacrosse players, Kaitlyn Fasanaro and Christina Mallon, signed to play at Roanoke College in Virginia and Wofford College in South Carolina, respectively. Fasanaro is a two-time state champ who is responsible for 51 total goals and 62 assists in her lacrosse career. Mallon, the 2023 team captain, was named a U.S. Academic All-American player this year.

Girls’ soccer player Kylie Cino committed to the University of South Carolina, while Ella Grace Dillard and Finley Dybik will be heading to the Volunteer State. Dillard will play for the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and Dybik with East Tennessee State University.

South Carolina High School League Volleyball Region 6-5A Player of the Year Briged Potter signed with Flagler College, a Division II school in St. Augustine, Florida.

The girls’ rugby team also saw two players, Emma Cook and Lucy Miller, sign letters of commitment to in-state schools. Team Captain Cook signed with Lander University. Miller, a member of the Elite Girls Rugby League 2023, signed with Newberry College.

Baseball players Luke Palyok and Logan Parker will stay teammates for a while longer after their Wando graduation this spring. Outfielder Palyok and left-handed pitcher Parker both signed with Coker College in Hartsville.

Four boys’ lacrosse players participated in the signing day event. Sean Carroll signed with Lynn University in Florida, Jameson Lowe with St. Leo University in Florida, Connor Neal with Anderson University and Joseph Piazza with Brevard College in North Carolina.

Swimmer Charlie Green signed with Kenyon College in Ohio. Green, known for being a competitive swimmer and compassionate opponent, according to head coach Nicolette Gibbons, is a state champion in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle.

Cross Country and Track and Field runners Jake Liebert and John Teachman signed with the University of Tennessee and Davidson College in North Carolina, respectively. Liebert holds the state record in the 3,200-meter run. Teachman is a five-time All-Region Cross Country athlete and a seven-time All-Region Track and Field runner.
